Matter of Recommendation from the Ad Hoc Committee for the Renaming of East 14th Street and MacArthur Boulevard Council Member Perry said it was recommended that the City Council accept the recommendation of the Ad Hoc Committee and make no changes to the street names at this time. She described the Committee meetings and the Town Hall meeting. She said based on the public testimony, the Committee had recommended that no change be made at this time. Mayor Karp noted that this recommendation was an outgrowth of the North Area Program and public response at that time was favorable. Council Member Glaze said that a consultant had recommended, prior to the North Area Committee's recommendation, that the City look into the name change. He said he doesn't necessarily feel that this is a bad idea and that the intentions were good. He said addresses on East 14th are confusing to people. He said he was sorry that this could not be done at this time. Council Member Perry said that a number of other ideas had been developed as a result of the Committee, and that the major concern was regarding costs involved, but the revitalization and identity for the North Area was strongly supported. The following Motion was then introduced. MINUTE ORDER NO. 91-79 (1156) MATTER OF RECOMMENDATION FROM THE AD HOC COMMITTEE FOR THE RENAMING OF EAST 14TH STREET AND MACARTHUR BOULEVARD On motion by Council Member Perry who moved its approval , seconded by Council Member Corbett and carried by the following called vote, the City Council accepted the recommendation of the Ad Hoc Committee for the Renaming of East 14th Street and MacArthur Boulevard and recommended that no changes be made to the names of East 14th Street and MacArthur Boulevard at this time. AYES: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos; Mayor Karp ( 7 ) NOES: None ( 0 ) ABSENT: None ( 0 )
