Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - December 2, 1991 Page - 10 - <br /> CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued) <br /> E. Mayor Karp discussed the Surface Transportation Act. He said he worked <br /> on it for about half a year. He said the State of California came out <br /> like bandits. He said the State currently gets about $.80 back on the <br /> dollar. He said a better deal had been negotiated and the State will <br /> now get $.90 back on the dollar. He also noted that, about a year ago, <br /> the government added a 5-cent tax to gas, which was being used to off- <br /> set the deficit. He said as a result of complaints that has been <br /> changed and 2.5 cents of the 5 cents will now go toward surface <br /> transportation. He said under the six-year plan California will be <br /> receiving $2.25 billion. <br /> F. Mayor Karp discussed Bay Area Vision 2020. He said this is a very <br /> important issue and Associated Homeowners of San Leandro, Inc. , should <br /> take up this matter and look into it in depth. <br /> 11.
