Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - August 6, 1990 Page - 9 -
MISCELLANEOUS
a. On motion of Council Member Santos, seconded by Council Member Glaze and
carried unanimously, the City Council requested that the City Attorney
prepare an ordinance regulating the conversion of full -service stations and
public restrooms at service stations.
b. Council Member Corbett thanked staff for the follow up related to the Chabot
Golf Course land fill and San Leandro Creek.
c. Council Member Corbett asked for a report on the status of tree planting in
the North Area and a schedule for tree planting in the south end of town as
well .
d. Council Members Glaze and Polvorosa also asked when tree planting would
occur in other areas of town. Mayor Karp said the North Area would have to
be completed first. Members of the City Council noted that other homeowners
groups in other areas of the City would like to start a program similar to
that implemented in the Broadmoor area and requested that homeowners
associations be contacted on this matter.
e. Council Member Perry had a number of comments:
(1) She congratulated the Library on a successful "Music In the Summer Air"
program.
(2) She said she was concerned about the effect of State budget cuts on City
services, such as the Library literacy program.
(3) She requested a report on the Americans with Disabilities Act, how it
will affect the City, and what the City will do.
(4) She noted that August 7 was "Night Out" and that thirteen homes would
be sponsoring block parties.
(5) She noted that the news indicated the City Council is not responsive to
child care, but she said the City has been more than pro-active and
" discussed the grant program for child-care providers education. She
said Superintendent Tubbs had called her and said that he was concerned
regarding the increase in population and the use of school property; she
said the School District and the City should continue to be cooperative
in the area of child care.
f. Council Member Faria spoke regarding the railroad property at the corner of
\," Washington and Halcyon Drive near General Foods and asked for an update and
status report on this property. Council Member Glaze said this property
needs to be looked at from a traffic standpoint in terms of use appropriate
for that corner and that this matter should be reviewed before anyone
invests in the property.
g. Council Member Santos asked for a status report on the development of the
Chez Doucet property at Merced and Fairway.
h. Council Member Faria asked for a report on what can be done regarding the
traffic situation at Beatrice and Washington. He said he would like a plan
on this matter. He also requested that the City Attorney comment in
reference to recent Board of Zoning Adjustments Minutes, look into the
matter of expiration of Conditional Uses and whether or not the Conditional
Use stays with property if the use has been abandoned for one year. He
specifically asked for information related to Bakers' Square and Alco Metal .
