Council Member Glaze complimented Blaine Brassfield on proposing a weekend <br /> building permit service in next year's budget. services. <br /> j. Council Member Perry expressed her appreciation and enthusiasm for the Night <br /> Out Program; she agreed with the idea of a Saturday building permit program; <br /> she thanked staff and the Mayor for sending letters to the County regarding <br /> the effect of potential budget cuts on the City; and she invited everyone <br /> to the Summer Reading Program Carnival at the Library on Saturday. She <br /> expressed concern regarding the number of open positions in the City and <br /> requested a list; Mike Oliver, Assistant City Manager, suggested that a Work <br /> Session presentation be made on recruitment in the City. <br /> k. Council Member Faria requested a report on the turning radius and traffic <br /> circulation at the entrance to Home Depot at Westgate. <br /> 1 . Jeff Houston, 1465 Burkhart Avenue, spoke in opposition to construction of <br /> homes in the Robert's Landing area. He asked why the City Council continued <br /> with the process despite the feelings which had been expressed by citizens. <br /> He asked why citizens were not permitted to speak when they so desired at <br /> City Council meetings, and how the City Council could vote on something <br /> without input from the public. He asked for clarification on what the City <br /> Council had voted on tonight. Mayor Karp explained that the vote initiated <br /> the process to allow for citizen input related to the rezoning and related <br /> EIR for the Citation property. He said the vote was not on whether or not <br /> there would be housing, rather that this would start the process. Council <br /> Member Perry noted that she had asked for a list of interested members of <br /> the audience so that they could be notified of the public hearing. Council <br /> Member Corbett said that an EIR and the alternatives that it would offer is <br /> extremely important for the City Council to use in making intelligent <br /> decisions. The City Council noted that the property is currently zoned I- <br /> 2 and proper rezoning of the property is necessary. <br /> m. Laird Harrison, 477 Bancroft Avenue, announced his resignation from the Daily <br /> Review and his impending marriage. He said he enjoyed reporting on the City <br /> of San Leandro.
