In late 2013 we secured a small technical assistance
James Fort grant from the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance
BUT DISTRICT program to support the intensification of our outreach efforts. We now seek
Tom Radulovich Caltrans' support for broader public involvement in the decision-making process.
or[] DISTRICT
The SLC Greenway proposal meets State and Federal goals to offer safe
multimodal mobility by providing non -motorized access to BART's fare gates.
Tire lower reaches of San Leandro Creek pass near the San Leandro and Coliseum
BART Stations. This Greenway would be interconnected with an existing
network of bikeways and the Bay Trail to encourage healthy, pollution free
commute options, trips to school, and recreational access to the EBRPD's Martin
Luther King Regional Shoreline. It will also help to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions.
State goals to promote social equity are also supported by the SLC Greenway.
Oakland and San Leandro communities bordering San Leandro Creek are
precluded firm access to creek banks where some existing flood control
improvements offer ready opportunities to create continuous paths that travel
though six miles of built-up urban environments. Offering a safe route to transit
can provide at -risk individuals with an economical means of traveling to work or
school. In Oakland the path would connect the airport area businesses and the
www.bart.gov
