DISCUSSION ITEMS - <br />2.A. 15-426 Discussion and Update on San Leandro BART Transit Center Design <br />Joe Callaway, Project Manager for the San Leandro Transit Center gave a presentation for <br />AC Transit on the following: <br />• Updated Transit Center Design <br />• Working with BART on bus stops <br />• Additional parking gained in latest design (29 space net loss) <br />• One way driveway entering from San Leandro Boulevard is provided <br />• Maintain landscaping of the median with removal of left turn pocket causing relocation <br />of the palm trees <br />• Wants feedback from the Committee <br />The Committee expressed concerns about the art component of the Transit Center, <br />maintaining parking spaces and parking lot access, shuttle stop locations and expanded <br />service, decorative crosswalks and crosswalk safety features. <br />The project will go out to bid sometime in October 2015. Construction will begin towards the <br />end of July 2015 on the rebuilding of the San Leandro BART substation, and will last for one <br />year. Forty-two parking spaces will be lost for the duration of the renovation. <br />Mayor Cutter expressed appreciation for the updates that BRT is giving to the Committee, and <br />the Committee is looking forward to receiving display boards to exhibit at the Library as a way <br />to keep the community aware of the progress. These updates, as well as BART and AC <br />Transit updates will also be disseminated at future Town Hall meetings, per K. Cooke. <br />2.113. 15-427 Discussion Regarding Helen Lawrence Theater <br />K. Foley provided an update on the Helen Lawrence Theatre and gave a presentation of the <br />theatre's current condition. K. Cooke discussed how after deeper investigation the project <br />scope being larger than what was originally envisioned, and as a result, the cost will be <br />upwards of $200,000 or $300,000 to bring the building up to code and incompliance with ADA <br />requirements. <br />Staff will include the theatre renovations in the Capital Improvement Project for review with the <br />minimum project cost being $240,000. <br />Performances by Brian Copeland will be held at the Main Library; Bay Area Children Theater <br />will potentially provide programming in collaboration with the Recreation & Human Services <br />Department. <br />Suggestions regarding use of the theater were made that include partnering with the Trades; <br />City of San Leandro Page 2 Printed on 9/29/2015 <br />
