<br /> <br />5.7.1 Historic Bay Area Fire Occurrences <br />Wildfires were common disasters in the Bay Area during the period from 1950 to 2014. <br />Large wildfires occurred in 1961, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1970, 1981, 1985, 1988, 1991, and <br />2008. The 1991 fire in the Oakland-Berkeley Hills was the largest urban-wildland fire in the <br />Bay Area, and resulted in $1.7 billion in losses.
