45 <br />EVALUATION CRITERIA <br />GENERAL QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER WHEN COMMISSIONING <br />PUBLIC ART <br />Use the following criteria to review artwork: <br />• Is the artwork of a high quality? <br />• Does the artist have experience or demonstrate a level of excellence? <br />• Does the artwork celebrate some aspect of the uniqueness of San <br />Leandro? <br />• If appropriate, have potential safety issues been assessed by the City of <br />San Leandro’s risk management division? <br />• Has the design of the artwork taken ongoing maintenance considerations <br />into account? <br />• Has there been a consultation to ensure that design of the project meets <br />requirements of the Americans with Disability Act? <br />• How does the work relate to the overall collection? <br />ARTIST QUALIFICATIONS <br />The SLAC will use the following criteria to review the selection of artists for the <br />acquisition of artwork: <br />• Meets the definition of artist, as defined in the Public Art Program <br />Ordinance. <br />• Demonstrates artistic excellence, innovation and originality as <br />represented in past work and supporting materials. <br />• Demonstrates capacity for working in media and with concepts that are <br />appropriate to the project goals and site. <br />• Demonstrates interest and capability in creating public artwork in <br />collaboration with the City, Public Art Program, the design team (if <br />applicable) and other project partners. <br />• Demonstrates experience in successfully completing works of similar <br />scope, scale, budget and complexity, or ability to articulate how he or she <br />would be able to bring the necessary artistic and technical skills to this <br />project. <br />56
