City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: October 16, 2017 <br />Staff Report <br />Agenda Section:File Number:17-573 CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Agenda Number:8.H. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Chris Zapata <br />City Manager <br />BY:Jeff Tudor <br />Chief of Police <br />FINANCE REVIEW:David Baum <br />Finance Director <br />TITLE:Staff Report for a Resolution to Appropriate Asset Forfeiture Funds in the <br />Amount of $185,000 for Police Equipment and Projects in 2017-2018 <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve a resolution to appropriate Federal and State <br />Asset Forfeiture funds from the respective fund balances to purchase necessary equipment and <br />fund projects in Fiscal Year 2017-18. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Police Department has equipment and employee wellness projects it needs to fund with <br />money from the Federal Asset Forfeiture Fund Balance. The projects below all comply with the <br />federal requirements related to the use of these special funds. <br />Equipment Funding <br />1. $50,000 to replace officer handguns that have exceeded their useful life, add patrol rifles, <br />and any related firearms equipment; <br />2. $50,000 to upgrade current Automated License Plate Reader technology. The existing <br />systems have exceeded their useful life and require replacement; <br />3. $35,000 to purchase two used, undercover vehicles for the Investigations Division; <br />3. $5,000 for evidence technician cameras and related photographic accessories. <br />$140,000 Equipment-related appropriation requested <br />Employee Wellness Funding <br />1. $30,000 to improve workstation ergonomics by purchasing chairs and sit-stand stations, <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 10/10/2017 <br />65
