DISCUSSION ITEMS <br />17-704 Staff Update on Pedestrian Crossing Improvements 17-18 <br />Director Keith Cooke presented an update on the Pedestrian Crossing Improvements 17-18 <br />project. <br />Committee Requests/Direction to Staff: <br />Council Member Lopez requested clarification re: scoring for Pershing: updated scoring <br />incorporates comments from a resident for Scoring Criteria K. <br />Council Member Cox: At what amount/level does Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) <br />provide grant funding? <br />Typically, HSIP funding covers 80-90% of project costs. <br />Mayor Cutter: Recommends requested locations stay on the list for future evaluation or for <br />inclusion in grant-funded projects. Recommends sharing this presentation with City Council. <br />Requests staff examine possibility of crosswalk across E. 14th near Sunnyside, Georgia or <br />Cambridge to address pedestrian traffic to nearby businesses and school in addition to crossing <br />planned for Euclid. <br />Council Member Cox: How do we make sure that residents across the City understand that this is <br />available and how to navigate the crosswalk request process? San Leandro Boulevard at <br />Lorraine Boulevard crosswalk was discussed in the context of complete streets. <br />Council Member Lopez: Appreciates that staff have incorporated Council feedback in revising the <br />scoring criteria. <br />Mayor Cutter: Similar to proximity to stoplights, is proximity to enhanced crosswalks taken into <br />consideration in evaluating locations? <br />Director Cooke requested and received the concurrence of the Facilities & Transportation <br />Committee on the Crosswalk Ranking Criteria, Weighting and minimum score of 20 points for <br />further consideration for improvements. Director Cooke also reviewed that the current crosswalk <br />project will require additional Measure B/BB funds. These funds will most likely be backfilled with <br />SB 1 funds. The Mayor requested the evaluation of a crosswalk at either Sunnyside Drive, <br />Cambridge Avenue or Georgia Way on E. 14th Street <br />17-705 Staff Update on the Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan Update <br />Senior Engineer Reh-Lin Chen presented an update on the Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan. <br />Page 2 City of San Leandro Printed on 1/30/2018 <br />15
