File Number: 18-119
Public present: From Alameda-Contra Costa Transit (AC Transit) - Community Construction
Relations Manager Geoffrey Johnson and Legislative Affairs and Community Relations
Department Representative Claudia Burgos; and from DKS Associates - David Mahama, P.E.

1.B. Announcements
None.

2. DISCUSSION ITEMS
2.A 18-068 Staff Report for a presentation on Euclid Avenue/Court One-Way Traffic
Flow Reversal
Director Keith Cooke welcomed David Mahama, P.E. from DKS Associates who presented
specific data analysis and trends on existing traffic, parking and safety on Euclid Avenue.

Principal Engineer Michael Stella provided an update on the AC Transit Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
project that will install a traffic signal at the Euclid Avenue/East 14th Street intersection for
pedestrian safety. The new traffic signal provides an opportunity to reverse the one-way traffic
flow on Euclid Avenue. Reversing the traffic flow has potential benefits and drawbacks in
relationship to school drop-offs/pick-ups and cut-through traffic.
Committee Requests/Direction to Staff:
Council Member Lopez asked about protected left turn movements on Dutton Avenue at East
14th Street, but learned that AC Transit’s BRT project does not include upgrades at this signal.
The Committee endorsed a community outreach effort involving the neighborhood and school.
They also asked staff to work with the school to move the perimeter fence on Euclid Court to allow
for a sidewalk.
Would like to have accessibility issues on Georgia Way and Dutton Avenue reviewed by staff
given the new curb ramps installed by AC Transit.
2.B 18-031 Staff Update on Capital Improvement Program Pool Projects
Senior Engineer Austine Osakwe presented an update on the current CIP pool projects for the
Boys and Girls Club Pool, Washington Manor Competition Pool and Farrelly Pool.
Committee Requests/Direction to Staff:
Council Member Lopez suggested that Farrelly pool be built to a length of 25 meters, and asked
that the pool be available for lap swim year round. A cost estimate will be developed for various
options.
Council Member Lopez asked that lap swim be considered in both the 25 yard and 25 meter
dimensions at Manor Pool.
Committee directed staff to be aware of Boys & Girls Club proposed remodeling and coordinate
Page 2 City of San Leandro Printed on 3/27/2018
61
