Sherwood and Recorder Y. <br />Carrasco <br /> <br />CHAIR PRO TEM: It was MSC (Prola/Heystek) to select S. Viveros-Walton as Chair Pro Tem for the <br />July 16, 2019 Library Historical Commission Meeting <br /> <br />ABSENT: H. Straughter <br /> <br />GUESTS: Assistant City Manager Liz Warmerdam, former Councilmember Jim Prola <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF AGENDA: It was MSC (Polvorosa/Lum) to approve the July 16, 2019 agenda. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES. It was MSC (Polvorosa/Lum) to approve the minutes of the June 18, 2019. <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS: None <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE: T. Mallon provided Commission with copy of the Library Historical Society <br />newsletter. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />A. Discussion of recognition of former Mayor Tony Santos. <br />Public comment received from former Councilmember Jim Prola. <br />Assistant City Manager Warmerdam provided information regarding the policy of naming or <br />renaming of a public facility and background information on the several ways staff has identified <br />as a way to honor former Mayor Anthony “Tony” Santos, who passed away on April 15, 2019. <br />On June 13, the Rules Committee recommended Glover Cleveland Park retain its name and the <br />playground be named after Mayor Santos. The Rules Committee recommended the consideration <br />of placing Mayor Santos’ name under a large sign and a plaque embedded in a rock with the <br />history of the park be reviewed by the Facilities and Transportation Committee on July 3, 2019 <br />and the Library Historical Commission on July 16. The final determination will be decided by <br />the City Council in October 2019. <br />On July 3, 2019 the Facilities and Transportation Committee, after listening to the public and <br />family members, reached a consensus that the park should be renamed after Mayor Santos and a <br />plaque honoring the role of the neighborhood in creating the park should also be considered. <br /> <br />It was a MSC (Prola/Polvorosa) to rename Grove Cleveland Park in memory Mayor Anthony <br />“Tony” Santos. <br /> <br />It was a MSC (Heystek/Barloga) that a plaque honoring the history of the park also be considered <br />by the City Council. <br /> <br />B.
