City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: May 3, 2021 <br />Resolution - Council <br />Agenda Section:File Number:21-267 CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Agenda Number: <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Fran Robustelli <br />Interim City Manager <br />BY:City Council <br />FINANCE REVIEW:Not Applicable <br />TITLE:RESOLUTION of the City of San Leandro City Council Supporting the Goal of <br />Reaching 100% Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Sales in California by 2030 <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE <br />GOAL OF REACHING 100% ZERO EMISSION VEHICLE SALES IN CALIFORNIA BY <br />2030 <br />WHEREAS, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change tells us we have until <br />2030 to transform our economy and the way we live to avoid the most catastrophic and <br />irreversible effects of the climate crisis; and <br />WHEREAS, the transportation sector is the largest contributor of Greenhouse Gas <br />emissions in California, making up over 50% of all Greenhouse Gas emissions in the state; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, electrifying transportation needs to be at the forefront of discussions and <br />innovations in an attempt to combat the climate crisis; and <br />WHEREAS, California increased the number of zero emission vehicles in the state by <br />more than 3,000% in 8 years, growing from 25,000 in 2012 to 763,816 in 2020 - each year; <br />sales continue to grow; and <br />WHEREAS, Governor Newsom’s Executive Order from January 19, 2021 calls for the <br />elimination of internal combustion passenger vehicles by 2035; and <br />Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 4/29/2021 <br />126
