File Number: 22-138 <br />C.Current Program: The Library will be conducting a Community Reads program with <br />Tommy Orange’s book titled There, There as part of the Library’s Sesquicentennial <br />programming. The book is set in the Bay Area and San Leandro is referenced in it. This <br />fictional title tackles topics of challenges that modern indigenous people face. With this <br />funding the Library will provide at least 100 paperback book copy giveaways, conduct <br />book discussion programming, and provide an adjacent indigenous peoples’ arts program <br />open to the public. <br />D.Funding: The Friends will donate $3,000 to the Library. <br />The gift award is earmarked and to be solely used for the Community Reads supplies and <br />activities. <br />If approved, the funding through the gift award will enhance the City Council approved <br />Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Library operating budget. <br />Fiscal Impacts <br />The Community Reads programming will cost $3,000, which requires increasing the FY <br />2021-2022 budget by the same amount for the Library and will be funded by the Friends gift <br />through a one-time payment to the City for $3,000. <br />Budget Authority <br />All expenditures will be captured in account 010-68-005 and off-setting revenues will be deposited <br />into account 010-3803 Gifts and Donations . <br />ATTACHMENT(S) <br />None <br />PREPARED BY: Brian Simons, Library Director, Library Department <br />Page 2 City of San Leandro Printed on 3/9/2022
