January <br />2021. <br />Adult only households represent one or more adult(s) experiencing homelessness together without <br />minor children. Most such households are a single individual. Adult only households are estimated at <br />12,005 annually and make up 91% of households that are homeless over a year. <br />Families with minor children are estimated at 985 annually, representing 7.5% of homelessness <br />households.6 Child-only households (that is minor children who are homeless without any adults) are <br />1.5% of the county’s homeless population. <br />Males make up more than 60% of the homeless population. Applied Survey Research (ASR). 2019. <br /> <br />Racial Disparities in the Homeless Population <br />While homelessness is widespread in Alameda County, it disproportionately impacts people of color, <br />especially African Americans. The 2019 Homelessness Point in Time Count shows that people of color <br />make up more than 2 out of 3 (69%) people experiencing homelessness in Alameda County. The groups <br />most disproportionately affected are people identifying as Black or African American, and American <br />Indian or Alaska Native. Black people account for 47% of the homeless population, compared to 11% of <br />the general population in Alameda County.
