Let me explain the big stockpile in't know how to operate your macl ut I have some
slides which I have made just tc nd pictures to show you what is ha,, g in that yard.
The.stockpile along the east side rence, which they say will erode in the rainy season and run
down into the neighbors property...
vleGallian: Mr. Guss, it is not your character that is in question. I have been in the construction
business and I know what you are saying. I have been there and done that. The only thing that
this is asking you is to comply by October 15. That is your chance and that is what we are here
to rule on. It has come down to that. You can show us pictures, you can give us statements and
you can tell us all the good things that you have done here. We have read them and we
commend you for your good work and your reputation. There have been a lot of nice things said
about you. That is not what is in question here. What is in question is, can you comply by
October 15. Basically, that is it.
Guss: Yes, sir. I will comply. Can I finish this? Just give me three more minutes.
McGallian: OK, but I would like to put a limit on it. I know you have probably done a lot of
work and research into it.
Guss: You heard that they said that I had dirt piled on the side on this particular east side and
that the material was coming down against the neighbors fence. First of all, I have a well
established growth across there and it is all concrete, there is no dirt on the east side at all. The
picture speaks for itself. This picture was just made today. I had it developed at Denevi's
Camera. Secondly, if something went down beside the fence, there are two fences down there.
One fence belongs to me and is on my property; the second fence belongs to Burt & Johnny's
which has steel posts. If I put something against the fence, it would be on my property, not on
ais property.
Eliason: Would it be more fair to the applicant to allow him time to load his slides and maybe
we take a short recess while he does this so we can have his presentation?
Guss: I.believe I can do it in five minutes.
McGallian: OK.
Guss: This is a shot from Doolittle looking out towards the end of Eden Road. Here it looks
like a landing strip on an old farmer's place. It's not the place you used to know it as. You're a
contractor, you've been there. A lot of you grew up in San Leandro. What else could you ask
for. They could drive down through there 30 miles an hour if they wanted to. `All those
improvements have been done by me out of my pocket.
This is Galbraith's service yard with my pickup sitting on it but that is where I pull up with my
trucks and I back straight back into my property. But look how nice `it looks, sir. That doesn't
look like a "Sanford and Son" operation to me. I just want to share that with you.
This is at the back of the water pollution plant or sewage treatment plant looking back towards
Doolittle Drive. In other words, I'm standing west and I'm shooting east: Arrow's Truck Parts
Board of Zoning Adjustments Meeting August 1, 1996
Minute No. 96-15 ;r Page 6 of 12
