Patel7t1,3/117come
In the past six months, we have submitted $406,000 in grant proposals, a third of
which are for renewed grants. Attachment E summarizes our fundraising efforts to
date. We estimate a 90% likelihood in being awarded the renewed grants, and a 50%
likelihood of being awarded the requests for new funding. It should be noted that
these grant requests are for carrying our existing programs forward into the next fiscal
year, and can not be used to close our existing deficit. However, just yesterday the
Eden Township Healthcare District informed us yesterday that our renewal grant for
$.75,000 was not awarded. This grant was to fund our Community Based Domestic
Violence program in FY 2002-2003, and covers costs of running our Crisis Line, and
paying our community education and outreach staff. We will work diligently to find
alternative sources of funding for the Outreach cost center, but the program may be in
jeopardy in the next fiscal year.
C017C/US%0/1
While these cuts will save money in the. short-term, they ultimately jeopardize the
agency's ability to attract and sustain funding. With less staff and less services our
programs will not meet the outcomes we have proposed to. our current funders. If and
when we are unable to achieve our projected outcomes, the renewal of our current
contracts will beat risk. BFWC has spent years building quality programming that
achieves results for San Leandro's most marginalized and at -risk families, and we hope
this current funding crisis will not force us to undercut the quality of the services we
provide.
We.would be most grateful if the_City of San Leandro could help us close the gap in
funding in our time of urgent need. I look forward to our meeting on January 23rd to
discuss this proposal and .to conduct a site visit of our facilities.
Sincerely,
Lam'
lame de Coligny
Executive Director
cc. Bob Caulkins, City of San Leandro
Carol Lamont, San Francisco Foundation
