responsible for something that maybe the City Council wasn't
responsible for. And I know we should have input, we should help
them if we can, but I'm going to ask you, if they decide to close a
school, can we prevent it? If they decide to build a school, can we
prevent it? I didn't think so, so I would say, yes, we should work
as closely with them as we can. But we need to be careful that we
don't try to take on responsibility of another elected board.
Mayor Young: Well said. Who else wants to make a comment? Sounds like we
need to do some amending to some of this language. I don't know
how many choices we have. Barry, do you want to tackle this?
Barry: Yeah. First, I'd like to start with a clarification.
Mayor Young: Okay.
Barry: There's an error on this page, actually, 46 that ... what's at the top,
it says "New 46.01-a" has already been incorporated in what's at
the bottom, 46.06-a. So that ... citywide bond measures, that top
Mayor Young: So, we can eliminate 46.01-a completely? [both talk at once]
Barry: [both talk at once] That entire ... right .. right, yes. That strikeout
Mayor Young: .. strikeout the whole ...
Barry: ... and italics was not doing what it was supposed to.
Mayor Young: Okay.
Barry: On 46.02-a, the first two sentences were already in the Draft
General Plan. So, that is an amendment, and rather than saying
"The City and School Districts will work together to identify
possible future school sites," etc., you may consider something
like, "The City and School Districts should work..."
[Mayor Young - ?]: There's that "should" again. [laughs]
Barry: "Should" instead of "will." "... work together to conduct joint
planning activities to meet anticipated needs," or something that
doesn't specifically reference school sites, but really, more speaks
to the spirit of working together in anticipation of what their future
needs are going to be.
