ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW DRAFT <br />Policies and Actions <br />Implementation Strategies <br />Action 53.05-B: Islander Motel Rehabilitation and BART Parking Lot Redevelopment <br />Continue to conduct feasibility studies for the following projects: <br />• Rehabilitation of the Islander Motel (f the opportunity arises) from a transient <br />occupancy hotel to permanent affordable housing. Supplemental funding through <br />programs such as HOME or HUD Section 202 (senior housing) should be pursued to <br />cover the costs associated with conversion of the existingfacility, or its replacement <br />with new affordable housing. <br />Development of the 2.2-acre BART parking lot site on the east side of San Leandro <br />Boulevard at West Juana Street with no fewer than 80 units of housing, including a <br />significant component of affordable units. Because this project is contingent on <br />construction of a BART parking garage, support joint planning and funding <br />applications with BART which advance this development. <br />Policy 53.06 CONDOMINIUM DEVELOPMENT <br />Promote the development of new condominiums as a more • Housing Programs <br />affordable alternative to single family detached housing for <br />those seeking home ownership.
