• General Foundry is a long established San Leandro business that requires additional
space. They manufacture specialty metal parts for the technology industry with
clients such as Hewlett Packard and Cisco Systems.
• The company proposes to relocate to the Merced site, renovate the existing buildings
on the site and upgrade the buildings to accommodate their needs. The plan includes
an alteration to one building to provide a landscaped set -back on Merced, and allow
the sidewalk to be widened.
• The developer is investing nearly $2,500,000 in site remediation and aesthetic
improvements to the property. Staff is recommending that the Agency assist the
developer with a $150,000 grant to offset 50% of the cost of moving the front wall of
the building back to make way for the sidewalk and landscaping improvements.
• The Committee noted their support and referred the matter to the City Council and
Redevelopment Agency for consideration at the meeting of November 19, 2001, or as
soon thereafter as practical.
Business Development Project Updates
Staff noted that the election process for the West San Leandro/MacArthur
Redevelopment Advisory Committee was underway with the solicitation of
nominations for the three-year term of office.
