have twenty (20) days' accumulated sick leave at the time
the catastrophic illness occurs may be permitted up to ten
(10) working days' catastrophic leave. Leave under this
section shall become effective after all other paid leave
is exhausted. During any period of catastrophic illness
leave, the employee shall receive compensation at the rate
of sixty percent (60%) of his/her regular base pay.
A minimum of one (1) year must elapse following the
termination of the catastrophic illness leave before an
employee may be permitted further catastrophic illness
leave. However, if subsequent catastrophic illness occurs
within a year following the termination of the previous
catastrophic illness leave, an employee may be permitted to
use whatever accumulated paid leave he/she has and then
whatever catastrophic illness leave he/she was eligible
for but did not use.
The same principles concerning the administration of the
sick leave benefit shall be used for this benefit where
applicable.
Section 36. Non -Discrimination
The City and the Union agree that there shall be no
discrimination against any employee because of Union
activities or because of race, color, religion, sex,
national origin, age, marital status, disability, or sexual
orientation defined by applicable Federal and State
regulations.
Section 37. Refuse Collector Modifications
Starting time is 5:30 a.m. Any employee who has not
reported in or otherwise contacted his supervisor by 5:30
a.m. will not be allowed to work on that day and will not
be paid for that day.
The 5:30 a.m. deadline for contacting one's supervisor
includes reporting in sick (or reporting other absences
which are otherwise eligible for paid leave).
If an employee telephones his supervisor prior to 5:30 a.m.
and reports that he may be late, he will be allowed to work
if he reports in no later than 5:45 a.m. However, any
employee who reports in after 5:30 a.m. (but not later than
5:45 a.m.) will be dock fifteen (15) minutes pay. (Note:
To accommodate those who call to report that they will be
late, the telephone in the Sanitation office will be manned
between 5:00 and 5:30 a.m.)
Time "on the books" (vacation, accumulated time, E8 days,
etc) cannot be used in lieu of leave without pay for either
of the above situations.
32
