;a. <br />ti <br />CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />STAFF REPORT <br />Date: April 14, 1999 <br />To: John Jermanis, City Manager <br />From: Gayle Petersen, City Clerk W�� <br />APPROVED AND <br />FORWARDED <br />TO CITY COUNCIL. <br />Jo Jermanis <br />Ci anager ci°i—�O <br />C� oSS� <br />Subject: Discussion Re: City Council Rules & Communications Committee <br />Recommendation To Set The Election Date For The Year 2000. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />The Rules and Communications Committee recommended at the February 1, 1999 City Council <br />Meeting, during a reporting out of their meeting highlights of January 26, 1999, that the election <br />in the year 2000 should be held on November 7, 2000. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Rules and Communications Committee met on January 26, 1999 and reviewed several <br />different options for election dates in the year 2000. The City Clerk provided information <br />regarding Alameda County cities and when their elections are held, as well as if they conducted <br />their own election or consolidated with the County. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Rules and Communications Committee recommends that the City of San Leandro's next <br />election take place on November 7, 2000. Should the City Council agree to set the election date <br />as recommended, a motion should be made to direct the City Clerk to come back to the City <br />Council with the necessary Ordinance and resolutions setting the election date for November 7, <br />2000 at their City Council Meeting scheduled for May 3, 1999. <br />CONCLUSION <br />The Rules and Communications Committee recommends that the City Council make a motion to <br />direct the City Clerk to prepare the necessary ordinance and resolutions setting the City of San <br />Leandro's next election for November 7, 2000 and requesting consolidation of that election with <br />the State-wide General Municipal Election to be conducted by the County of Alameda. <br />16 "i <br />
