Redevelopment Advisory Committee - 2 - May 11, 1999
Appointments
DISCUSSION
This past fall, fifteen members were elected to the RAC through a mail -in ballot. However, due
to scheduling conflicts, three of the original members (Donald Kane, John Notch and Peter
Spinardi) have resigned. Vacancies were announced to the RAC in March and new nominations
were sought, beginning with candidates who were unsuccessful in the fall election. Don
Bruzzone, a developer and property owner in West San Leandro, was on the original RAC ballot
and has indicated his interest in completing the remaining term as a West San Leandro property
owner. Mike Boyle is the owner of the former Evergreen Nursery site on MacArthur Boulevard
and has agreed to serve as a MacArthur Boulevard property owner. Francis Hilliard is a partner
in Our Spot Barber Shop on MacArthur Boulevard. She has been active in the Oakland/San
Leandro joint project and would like to continue her involvement by participating on the RAC as
a MacArthur Boulevard business owner. Each of the three recommended appointments has been
approved by the entire RAC. Therefore, it is recommended that the City Council appoint these
three nominees to the RAC to fill current vacancies.
CONCLUSION
The RAC provides important input in the formation of the West San Leandro/MacArthur
Boulevard Redevelopment Area. The appointment of the three candidates will allow full
representation from the community. Therefore, staff recommends the appointment of the
proposed candidates to fill these vacancies.
SE/DP:la
G:\LORI\RDA\RAC APPT STAFF REPORT.DOC
2 7 ad
