STANDARDS FOR DIRECTIONAL SIGNS Directional signs shall be permitted within the public right-of-way in accordance with the following standards: • Directional signs shall be permitted for business, commercial and retail districts, recreational facilities, shopping centers and malls, religious institutions, government facilities and similar destinations that have a local or regional draw. • The Development Services Department shall make a finding for each application that the directional sign will benefit the public good. • Whenever possible, an existing directional sign pole, street name sign post, signal pole or light pole shall be used. • An encroachment permit shall be required. • The applicant shall submit a written request for the sign stating the desired location(s) and the text to appear on the sign. The request shall be subject to the approval of the Development Services and Engineering and Transpiration Departments. • The number of signs permitted shall be limited to the minimum number needed for clear directions to the site as determined by the Development Services and Engineering and Transportation Departments. The total number of signs shall not exceed three for any one site. • The signs shall be installed by the City and the applicant shall deposit funds to cover all costs incurred by the City in the approval and installation of the sign. • The size of the sign shall be 24 by 36 inches excluding the directional arrow. • The sign shall conform to the design criteria attached. • Should the applicant cease its operation at a particular location, the applicant shall notify the City within 15 days after said cessation and the City will remove the existing directional signs with the cost paid by the applicant. • Any sign damaged or lost by accident or malicious conduct will be replaced by the City, with the cost paid by the applicant.
