reasonable value of the hand tools furnished by employees <br />in the Automotive Mechanic classification against loss in <br />excess of Sixty Dollars ($60) per occurrence arising from <br />theft or catastrophic damage. It is understood that the <br />City may institute reasonable rules for the purpose of <br />limiting claims under this tool insurance. <br />These rules shall provide for, but not be limited to, tool <br />inventories, audit of tool inventories, restrictions on <br />removal of tools from the automotive shop and requirements <br />for the proper safeguarding of tools by the employees, <br />which includes securement and lock -up of tools at the end <br />of each working period. <br />For the period of this Memorandum of Understanding, <br />employees regularly assigned to the Public Works Equipment <br />Section, who are required to provide and use their own <br />tools shall be reimbursed by the City for broken, worn out, <br />and/or technologically obsolete tools, to a maximum of $300 <br />per fiscal year. Such reimbursement shall be paid once each <br />fiscal year only upon submission of acceptable <br />justification and receipts to the Public Works Services <br />Director. <br />Section 36 Catastrophic Illness Leave <br />The objective of this section is to complement the City's <br />illness protection program for employees by improving <br />health benefits in instances of catastrophic illness, and <br />thereby aid employees to do better work. <br />An employee holding a full-time position with permanent <br />status who has completed two (2) full years of continuous <br />service shall be eligible for the catastrophic illness <br />leave benefit upon receiving a prior favorable <br />recommendation therefore from the department head concerned <br />and only upon the specific approval of the City Manager. <br />To be eligible for leave under this section, such employee <br />must be unable to work at his/her position or any less <br />demanding position to which he/she may be assigned by the <br />department head concerned, and must have exhausted all of <br />his/her accumulated sick leave, vacation, holiday, overtime <br />and all other accumulated leave or pay benefits. <br />Upon receiving prior approval, an employee shall be allowed <br />catastrophic leave up to a total of one-half (1/2) of the <br />accumulated sick leave the employee had when the <br />catastrophic illness occurred to a maximum catastrophic <br />leave of fifty (50) work days; an employee who does not <br />have twenty (20) days' accumulated sick leave at the time <br />the catastrophic illness occurs may be permitted up to ten <br />(10) working days' catastrophic leave.
