Transportation Administrator/'
BY: Raymond E. p
Raymond A. Santiago, Traffic Operations Engineer rl'--
SUBJECT: MATTER OF ESTABLISHING SCHOOL BUS LOADING ZONES
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
The San Lorenzo School District has made some changes for the 1998/99 school year which
include the re -opening of Dayton Elementary School, and the conversion of Washington Manor
Elementary School to a middle school. These changes require some modifications to accommodate
school buses at those sites as well as Corvallis Elementary School. It is recommended that the City
Council adopt resolutions to establish bus zones, and modify and delete passenger loading zones
along the frontages of Corvallis, Dayton, and Washington Manor Schools.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
Staff has received a request from the San Lorenzo School District to establish school bus zones
along the frontage of Corvallis, Dayton, and Washington Manor Schools. The District will be
making changes for the 1998/99 school year that affect their three schools within the City of San
Leandro boundary. Dayton Elementary, which was previously closed by the district will re -open.
Washington Manor Elementary is being converted to a Middle School. These changes have
required a reconfiguration of the school boundaries, as well as the bussing of children to each
school.
For Corvallis Elementary, there is a need to accommodate three to four school buses. This would
require the elimination of the existing 144 foot long passenger loading zone on Farnsworth Street,
along the frontage of the school.
- 179
