AMENDED AGENDA
The Brown Act generally prohibits the City Council from discussing or taking action on
an item not appearing on its posted agenda. The Act provides certain exceptions to this
rule. For instance, the City Council may, on a two-thirds vote, determine that the need to
take action on an item arose after the agenda was posted. If less than five members of the
Council are present, the vote must be unanimous. If the Council makes this
determination it may proceed to consider the underlying issue presented, although no
action would be taken on the underlying issue at the work session itself. Other
exceptions are provided for emergencies, as defined, and certain continued hearings.
M
