COMMISSION PROFILE <br />Title of Commission: HANDICAPPED ACCESS APPEALS BOARD <br />Description of Board Duties: <br />The Board shall: <br />a) Receive appeals and conduct hearings thereon under the provisions of <br />§ 19957.5 of California Health and Safety Code relating to the enforcement of <br />the building access requirement of Part 5.5 of the Code and the granting of <br />exceptions to such building access requirements authorized by § 19957 <br />thereof. <br />b) Make recommendations to the City Council from time to time concerning the <br />provision of access to public accommodations and facilities by physically <br />handicapped persons constructed within the City of San Leandro. <br />c) Other functions which may be designated by resolution or motion of the <br />Council. <br />TME.IBERSHIP: <br />Two (2) members of the Board shall be physically handicapped persons. For <br />purposes of this subsection physically handicapped means any person who (i) has <br />a physical impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person's <br />major life activities, (ii) has a record of such an impairment, or (iii) is regarded as <br />having such an impairment. <br />Two (2) members of the Board shall be persons experienced in building and <br />construction. <br />One (1) member of the Board shall be a representative of the general public. <br />MEETING SCHEDULE: <br />Meetings are held on an as -needed basis. <br />XVI - 5 <br />101 <br />
