l\ <br />CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />MEMORANDUM <br />DATE: April 1, 1997 <br />TO: City Council <br />FROM: City Council Finance Committee <br />(Councilmembers Galvan and Young and Mayor Corbett) <br />SUBJECT: Final Finance Committee Recommendations - 1997-98 Budget Strategies <br />Attached you will find the City Council Finance Committee's final recommended Budget <br />Strategies for the 1997-98 City Budget. These Strategies have been developed as the <br />recommended policy foundation for the preparation of next fiscal year's City budget. The City <br />Council is scheduled to review the recommendations and give final approval for the Budget <br />Strategies on April 7, 1997. <br />The recommendations cover all the financial issues identified in the Mid -Year Budget Report and <br />by the City Council. Included in this Finance Committee report are the following elements: <br />l . Recommended Budget Strategies, 1997-98. <br />2. Capital Improvement Program (Draft), 1997-98. <br />s. Minutes, Finance Committee Meetings from January, February and March 1997. <br />The Budget Strategies give direction for the major policy issues facing the City for 1997-98. <br />Other elements of next year's budget anticipate maintaining critical base levels of City activity. <br />No new programs are scheduled to be implemented in 1997-98, although the Finance Committee <br />completed reviews of the following additional activities for 1997-98: <br />1. A 1997-98 allocation will be included in the Information Management Services <br />budget for City Council use of computer, voice mail, and pager equipment for <br />enhanced communications. <br />2. The Economic Development Agency will budget $50,000 to develop a Shop San <br />Leandro Program. This program will be designed to augment both City and private <br />promotional efforts and will be implemented on a city-wide basis. Bayfair, <br />
