Upon City Council approval, Section 1.5 of the Pay <br />Plan will be amended to include the classification and salary range of the proposed Payroll Supervisor, and <br />the classification specification for Payroll Supervisor will be forwarded to the Personnel Relations Board for <br />adoption. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Finance Department, Accounting Services Division, Payroll Section is under the direction of an Assistant <br />Finance Director who supervises the following classifications: Accountant, Senior Account Clerk, and <br />Account Clerk. The Payroll function consists of a Senior Account Clerk and an Account Clerk. <br />The Senior Account Clerk position assigned to the Payroll Section is required to follow highly structured <br />procedures to perform a variety of specialized technical and clerical duties, including: <br />• Calculating the City payroll and payroll deductions using employee time records; <br />• Balancing the payroll and resolve any discrepancies; <br />• Preparing pay orders <br />• Maintaining records of each employee's accumulated time; <br />• Computing the City contribution to retirement and social security; <br />• Summarizing departmental labor costs <br />• Establishing and maintaining employee record files on computer terminal; <br />• Preparing special payrolls, such as holiday pay, uniform allowance, and education incentive; <br />• Processing monthly premiums for medical, dental, and life insurance; <br />• Assisting departmental staff with matters pertaining to pay, taxes, deductions, etc. <br />• Completing pay information request forms for various governmental agencies, banks, etc.; <br />• Preparing journal entries; and <br />• Preparing statistical payroll reports for other City department. <br />2� <br />
