Wifornie'94539
5101656-7091 • Fax 5101656-3825
Attachment 1
We have reviewed your Traffic Study Update of January 18, 1996 regarding the proposed Marriott
Residence Inn, and our findings are given below.
Your report focused on the Doolittle/Marina intersection in accordance with Council Resolution 93-
197. Our review was based on the information you provided and was limited to the following areas
of analysis:
• Traffic volume changes
• Traffic forecasts for the project and for cumulative conditions
• Potential traffic level of service at the intersection
• Potential queuing and associated storage requirements
Traffic Volume ChUges
Total PM peak hour traffic volumes entering the Doolittle/Marina intersection appear to have
decreased since 1991, dropping from 3,109 vehicles in 1991 (per the TJKM counts for Roberts
Landing traffic study) to 2,326 vehicles in 1995. This is in spite of a number of projects that have
been completed since 1991 (e.g., Gateway Plaza). A large part of the decrease seems to be in north -
south traffic using Doolittle rather than east -west traffic on Marina itself.
It should be noted that the counts are one -day counts only, and variation from day -today could be
large, particularly for Doolittle which is a diversion route used when 1-880 is particularly overloaded.
Additionalcounts would be needed in order to verify the representativeness of the counts under
average conditions. Also, the 1991 counts were from 5-6 PM whereas the 1995 counts were from
4:30-5:30 PM.
c:wvD0CSVdARR1 rrr.LBr
•r' R A N 5 R p R - L O N • T R 4 e = C ' P O R X 1 N r . 1 T j
44
