1996 to present <br />The City began requiring all employees to take part in Diversity in the <br />Workplace training every five years, as well as Workplace Violence <br />Prevention and Discrimination/Sexual Harassment Awareness training. <br />1996 to present <br />Kid's Club sites have incorporated special cultural activities into their <br />programming concurrent with holidays or other seasonal periods (i.e. Black <br />History Month and Chinese New Year) since the program's inception in <br />1996. <br />1996 to present <br />The City received a $5,000 state grant for African American Cultural <br />materials, and has had materials emphasizing African the African American <br />Culture since the 1960s. <br />1997 <br />The City offered all employees a one -day seminar on "Team Effectiveness <br />in a Diverse Workforce." <br />Summer 1998 <br />The City organized and hosted "Hands Across San Leandro" — a city-wide <br />celebration of the 125th Anniversary of Incorporation and created a human <br />chain from City Hall south to 136th Avenue. <br />1999 to present <br />The Library received a $5,000 grant from the state to purchase Vietnamese <br />language materials, which was the beginning of the Vietnamese Language <br />Collection. <br />2000-2004 and <br />5-Year Strategic (Consolidated) Housing Plans submitted to HUD note that <br />2005-09 <br />reducing housing discrimination continues to be one of the City's main <br />priorities. Hence, the continued contracting with ECHO Housing for fair <br />housing services. <br />May 2002 to 2005 <br />The Library hosted an annual city-wide Heritage Faire with multi -cultural <br />entertainment, arts and crafts, food, and cultural exhibits. <br />Currently: The program was suspended due to budget reductions, <br />but the Library hopes to restore the program in FY 07-08. <br />August 2002 <br />The Public Policy Institute of California identified San Leandro as the city <br />having the 4`h most diverse neighborhoods in California (based on 2000 <br />Census data). <br />2002 <br />The City hosted Study Circle discussion groups regarding topics of interest <br />to various neighborhoods. Cultural diversity was one of the options offered <br />to the groups. However neither of the groups selected that as their area of <br />riorit , and chose safety and public education as their topics. <br />2003 to present <br />The Library began having an annual Native American Storyteller Festival. <br />2005 to present <br />The Library began having annual Hawaiian music concerts. <br />5/ 17/07 <br />
