IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO.2022-227 <br />HONORING COUNCILMEMBER CORINA LOPEZ AND PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGING <br />HER TWO TERMS ON THE CITY COUNCIL AND NUMEROUS PUBLIC SERVICE <br />ACCOMPLISHMENTS <br />WHEREAS, Councilmember Corina Lopez grew up in a migrant farm -working family in the <br />Salinas Valley, attended the Head Start program as a child, and eventually became the first member of her <br />immediate family to go to college, attending Princeton University; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilmember Lopez is a successful businesswoman with over 25 years of <br />academic, professional, and practical experience in finance, including a career on Wall Street as an equity <br />analyst; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilmember Lopez began her service to San Leandro as a park and <br />neighborhood advocate, then as a City of San Leandro Human Services Commissioner, followed by <br />service as a Trustee for the San Leandro Unified School District; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilmember Corina Lopez was first elected to the San Leandro City Council as <br />part of the November 2014 election and commenced her service as a member of the City Council in <br />January 2015; and <br />WHEREAS upon taking office, Councihnember Lopez distinguished herself by becoming the <br />first Latinx member of the City Council in San Leandro's history; and <br />WHEREAS, during her time on the City Council, she served in various leadership capacities on <br />various regional bodies including service as Chair of the East Bay Community Energy Board, and served <br />on the Alameda County Fire Advisory Commission for 8 years; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilmember Lopez served on the City Council Facilities & Transportation <br />Committee as well as the Finance Committee, where she championed numerous important causes, <br />including significant improvements to San Leandro's parks and infrastructure, identifying new funding <br />sources for important community projects, and bolstering the sustainability of City finances; and <br />WHEREAS, her other distinctions include receiving the 2022 National League of Cities Women <br />in Municipal Government Leadership Award, Assembly Member Rob Bonta's 2017 Equity Champion <br />Award, and the City of San Leandro Proclamation of `Corina Lopez Day' in 2013; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilmember Lopez also distinguished herself at the national level by serving in <br />various leadership roles for the National League of Cities, including three years of service on its Board of <br />Directors, along with service on its Hispanic Elected Local Officials Constituency Group, and <br />Information Technology and Federal Advocacy Committee; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilmember Lopez also distinguished herself at the state level through her three <br />years of service on the League of California Cities Board of Directors, as well as serving as the Chair and <br />Vice Chair of the League's Information Technology and Federal Advocacy Committee, and as an active <br />member of its Latino Caucus. <br />
