IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2023-153 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL TO ACCEPT THE LETTER OF INTENT TO DONATE <br />$800,000 FROM THE SAN LEANDRO PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION TO AID IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THE <br />EXISTING MULFORD-MARINA BRANCH LIBRARY AND TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT AND <br />ALLOCATE ALL FUNDS AND EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS RELATED TO THE DONATION <br />WHEREAS, the San Leandro Public Library Foundation (Foundation), formed in 1992, is a California non- <br />profit corporation exempt from taxation pursuant to Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3), whose stated <br />mission is to raise funds to support the City of San Leandro's (City) libraries and Project Literacy; and <br />WHEREAS, the City and Foundation share the common objectives of developing and maintaining the <br />highest level of library service for all of the City's residents, ensuring an adequate level of funding to maintain <br />equipment and programming at appropriate levels, and making and keeping library facilities safe and secure, <br />in good repair, and fully accessible to all persons; and <br />WHEREAS, City Council has allocated $4.95M in the Capital Improvement Project Budget for the <br />Mulford -Marina Branch Library replacement; and <br />WHEREAS, the City's Public Library has secured $4.079M in California State Library grant funding <br />committed to the Mulford -Marina Branch Library replacement; and <br />WHEREAS, the Foundation, as a partnering organization committed to replacing the existing Mulford - <br />Marina Branch Library that has reached end of life, with a new, larger branch library facility at the site of the <br />current facility, intends to donate $800,000 to supplement the combination of state grant funds and City <br />committed funds dedicated to that end; and <br />WHEREAS, the $800,000 Foundation donation is to be solely and exclusively used for the Mulford - <br />Marina Branch Library replacement project with $600,000 designated for construction and $200,000 <br />designated for the purchase of furnishings. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as follows: <br />1. That City Council accepts the Letter of Intent outlining San Leandro Public Library Foundation's <br />donation of $800,000 for the Mulford -Marina Branch Library replacement, and authorizes the City <br />Manager to appropriate the funds and execute all documents related to the donation; and <br />2. That an appropriation of the donation of $800,000 in revenue account #150-3803 and expenditure <br />account #150-68-100 is approved; and <br />3. That an original executed letter of intent shall be attached to and made a part of this resolution. <br />
