<br />a) During leaf season, Contractor shall remove leaves from turf areas prior to mowing. <br />b) Rakes are preferred for leaf removal over blowers at the following sites: Civic Center, <br />interior courtyards in City Facilities, libraries. The City will provide a list where use of <br />power equipment is not allowed or during times/days it is not allowed. <br />c) Leaf litter shall not be allowed to accumulate to the point that it will damage turf, block <br />irrigation heads. <br />d) Also See Section A-7 (700) <br /> <br /> <br />208 Fertilization - Extra Work – On Call – As Needed- PreApproval by City <br /> <br />(a) Turf fertilization shall be performed on an on call/requested basis. Pricing to fertilize all <br />turf within the scope of this contract shall be requested during the RFP process. <br />(b) Fertilization shall be with a slow release, non-water-soluble, high nitrogen fertilizer. <br />Chemical composition shall be approved by the City prior to application. All excess <br />chemicals shall be cleaned from benches, tables, BBQs, and pathways. <br />(c) Prior to lawn fertilization with granular-type fertilizers, the Contractor shall ensure that <br />the root zone of the turfgrass is damp and that the grass itself is free of surface moisture. <br />Lawns shall be watered immediately after fertilization to prevent burning the grass. <br />(d) Weed & feed, fertilization and aeration shall be done within 30 days of the City’s request. <br /> <br />209 DeThatching- Extra Work – On Call – As Needed- PreApproval by City <br /> <br />210 Edging/Clearing Sprinkler heads for Coverage <br /> <br />(a) The edge of turf shall be trimmed or limited around all sprinklers (to provide maximum <br />water coverage), valve boxes, meter boxes, back-flow devices, and other obstacles. <br />(b) Detailing of sprinkler heads (to provide maximum water coverage), valve boxes, meter <br />boxes, and similar small obstacles in turf areas shall be performed in a manner that <br />ensures operational clearance. <br />(c) Sprinkler heads shall be kept free of grass to allow for proper operation and coverage. <br />This shall be performed by mechanical methods only, unless otherwise specified by City <br /> <br />211 Maintain tree wells in turf areas <br /> <br />(a) Tree Wells: Contractor shall keep tree wells weed and litter free and mulched with a 3” <br />deep layer to assist in suppressing weeds. <br />(b) Adequate decomposed granite or wood mulch will be applied as necessary in the tree <br />wells to insure a level surface with the surrounding concrete sidewalk. Mulch shall be <br />clear of the tree’s root crown by at least 4 inches. Tree well diameters may vary <br />dependent on location, size, and use zones of trees.
