TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS <br />400 TREE MAINTENANCE <br />(a)Trees which have low hanging, diseased, dead or broken branches shall be trimmed or <br />removed by the Contractor. Only those tree branches which can be pruned from the <br />ground level using hand or pole pruning equipment may be trimmed by the Contractor. <br />(b)Branches overhanging traffic lanes shall be kept side trimmed to face of curb line and to a <br />height of 12 feet. Branches overhanging pedestrian routes shall be kept trimmed to a <br />height of 8 feet above walkway level. <br />401 Tree Staking <br />(a)Trees which are staked shall have supports kept in good repair. Any broken or damaged <br />supports or ties shall be replaced as soon as possible. City shall provide supports and ties. <br />(b)Staking shall remain in place until trees are fully capable of self-support- generally when <br />the trunk of the tree exceeds the diameter of the stake. Stakes and ties shall always <br />remain on tree roses. <br />402 Prune – ground level with hand prune or pole <br />(a)All trees shall be pruned by qualified personnel using horticulturally sound methods and <br />approved techniques. Trees shall be pruned to develop a structurally sound shape and a <br />healthy, natural appearance. <br />(b)No excessive pruning or stubbing back will be allowed. <br />(c)Sucker growth originating at the trunk or root zone shall be removed. <br />(d)Trees encroaching into backyards of private property from work areas shall be side <br />trimmed to fence line to a height of 12 feet. <br />(e)All tree trimming is to be done in accordance with the International Society of <br />Arboriculture, Western Chapter Pruning Standards (1988), the National Arborist <br />Association Pruning Standards for Shade Trees (revised 1988), and in compliance with <br />ANSI Z133.1 (1988 Safety Standards). Specifically, the quality of work shall be <br />consistent with the National Arborist Association definition of Fine Pruning (Class 1) <br />(f)All final cuts shall be made sufficiently close to the truck or parent limb, without cutting <br />int the branch collar or leaving a protruding stub, so that closure can readily begin under <br />normal conditions. <br />(g)Excessively deep flush cuts that produce large wounds or weaken the tree at the cut shall <br />not be made. <br />(h)Sharp pruning tools shall be used to ensure clean cuts. <br />Exhibit A <br />Page 33 of 55 <br />DocuSign Envelope ID: DEF5307A-6F44-4C74-86C2-5E2B3E67B647
