City of San Leandro <br />City Council <br />Meeting Date: February 5, 2024 <br />Agenda Number: 5.b. <br />Agenda Section: CONSENT CALENDAR <br />File Number: 23-644 <br />File Type: Staff Report <br />Adopt a Resolution to Accept Gift Funds in the Amount of $34,210 from the Friends of the San Leandro <br />Public Library and to Authorize the City Manager to Execute All Documents Related to the Gift and <br />Appropriate Gift Funds to Enhanced Library Card Sign Up Month, Summer Library Program, and <br />Programs at Manor Branch <br />COUNCIL PRIORITY <br />·Community Engagement and Outreach <br />SUMMARY <br />The San Leandro Public Library received $34,210 from the Friends of the San Leandro Public <br />Library in order to do a campaign for Library Card sign up month, provide an enhanced Summer <br />Library Program, and provide more programs at the Manor Branch Library. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Staff recommends the City Council adopt a resolution to accept the Friends of the San Leandro <br />Public Library donation totaling $34,210 and authorize the City Manager to execute all documents <br />and appropriate the funds. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Friends of the San Leandro Public Library was established in 1984 to support the San <br />Leandro Public Library. They raise funds to support the library through used book, DVD, and CD <br />sales, membership dues, and through their gift store. They have continuously supported the library <br />throughout the years, and their donations and time as volunteers provide funding and support for <br />library services, programs, materials, and promotion of the library. <br />Analysis <br />For FY2024, the Friends of the Library have provided $34,210 in donations for a Library Card <br />sign up month awareness campaign, as well as funds to enhance the Summer Library Program <br />and funds to expand programming at the Manor Branch Library. <br />Applicable General Plan Policies <br />·GOAL CSF-3 Sustain and expand a public library system that provides a destination for <br />exploration and discovery, knowledge and information, leisure and cultural enrichment, and <br />life-long learning opportunities for persons of all ages. <br />·Policy CSF-3.3 Adequate Funding. Ensure that library funding remains adequate to <br />sustain or increase existing service levels, including staffing, programming, and <br />technology upgrades.
