The cash out payment is taxable income and subject to all applicable <br />withholding amounts and payroll deductions. <br /> <br />The election must be made by December 15th of each year for the following year and is <br />irrevocable after that date. <br /> <br />If after making an irrevocable election, an employee fails to accrue sufficient hours to satisfy <br />their election amount, they will only be eligible to cash out up to the hours accrued in the tax <br />year. <br /> <br />Employees who do not submit a cashout election by the annual deadline will be deemed to <br />have waived the right to cash out any vacation leave in the following tax year and will not be <br />eligible to cash out vacation leave in that year. <br /> <br />Section 8. Sick Leave and Call-In <br /> <br />An employee holding a full-time position with probationary or permanent status will be allowed a <br />leave of absence from duty without loss of compensation on account of sickness or injury. Absence <br />for illness or injury may not be charged to sick leave not already accumulated. Sick leave is to be <br />used in cases of an employee’s sickness or injury, or of a member of their immediate family’s <br />sickness or injury, which requires the employee to be absent from work. An employee’s immediate <br />family is defined as a: <br /> <br />• spouse <br />• registered domestic partner <br />• child (biological, adopted, foster, step, legal ward, child of a registered domestic partner, or <br />child to whom the employee stands in loco parentis) <br />• parent (biological, adoptive, foster, step, or legal guardian of an employee or the employee’s <br />spouse or registered domestic partner, or a person who stood in loco parentis when the <br />employee was a minor child) <br />• sibling
