KEY OUTCOMES <br />AND PRIORITIES <br />Based on the analysis of San Leandro’s park system, <br />feedback from the community engagement process, and <br />input from city staff, the following themes and priorities were <br />identified for San Leandro’s Recreation and Park System: <br />Expand Amenities <br />Improved Access <br />to Parks <br />Access to School <br />Amenities <br />Provide safe bike and pedestrian access and multi-lingual <br />park signage. <br />Add amenities such as trails, dog parks, pickleball courts, <br />all abilities play areas, exercise equipment, community <br />gardens, outdoor amphitheater/event spaces. <br />Provide access to school grounds and recreational <br />facilities with clearly posted hours for public use. <br />Expanded <br />Program Offerings Safety <br />Open Space <br />and Trails Comfort <br />Environmental <br />Sustainability <br />Improved <br />Communication <br />Prioritize multi-generational programming for diverse ages <br />and needs such as, adult fitness classes, swim lessons, <br />STEAM programs, after-school programs, summer camps, <br />and adult sports leagues. <br />Provide access to nature, and passive recreation for <br />community health and well-being, in the form of trails <br />along San Leandro Creek and Estudillo Canal. <br />Prioritize bio-diversity, and native and drought-tolerant <br />planting in parks. Provide natural areas for play, nature <br />exploration, habitat, and environmental education. <br />Improve sense of safety in parks by preventing incidents <br />of vandalism, alcohol use, long-term occupancy by the <br />unhoused. <br />Improve comfort in parks by ensuring basic amenities <br />are present, clean, and functional, including restrooms, <br />drinking water fountains, trash receptacles, and shade <br />structures. <br />Improve communication about park amenities and <br />recreational programming offered.
