Neighborhood Parks <br />Medium-sized parks that provide <br />passive and active recreation <br />opportunities within walking or biking <br />distance for residents in one or more <br />neighborhoods. <br />SIZE: <br />5-10 acres preferred <br />LOCATION & ACCESS: <br />Central to the neighborhoods that they serve with <br />residential or school adjacent land uses and at least two <br />street frontages. Where applicable, connect to bikeways, <br />sidewalks and trails and minimize access barriers such as <br />fencing, steep slopes, or major arterial roads. <br />PARKING: <br />Street and bike parking <br />AMENITIES: <br />REQUIRED <br />• Playground (or comparable play environment for <br />ages 2-5 and 5-12) <br />• 1+ active-use amenity, such as a sport court or <br />athletic field <br />• 1+ special recreation amenity (i.e. amphitheater, skate <br />park, splash pad, dog park, roller rink, pump track, <br />community garden, sensory garden, etc.) <br />• Open lawn for multi-use recreation and unstructured <br />play <br />• Dispersed picnic areas <br />• Accessible walking loop <br />• Site furnishings (including benches, tables, drinking <br />fountains, trash receptacles, bike racks, etc.) <br />• Site signage <br />• Intuitive and accessible pathway circulation <br />RECOMMENDED: <br />• Group picnic shelter <br />• Permanent restrooms (based on park capacity/ <br />amenities) <br />• Interpretive signage, especially near notable natural <br />features. <br />• Interpretive trail and/or signage <br />• Public art <br />LANDSCAPE: <br />• Large shade trees should be plentiful, with a tree <br />canopy of at least 25% of the site. <br />• Turf grass should only be used in centralized lawn <br />or picnic areas.
