Tree Planting Projects <br />Focus Groups <br />The City of San Leandro partnered with Common Vision to plant 1,000 trees and e n gage t he community o n <br />t ree planti ng, maintenance, and care. Planti ng proj ect s were funded through a Cal Fire grant received i n May <br />2022. The p lanting even t s were held throughout t he course o f the T ree Master P lan, wh ich prov ided ample <br />opportunity for crossover on public education and outreach regard i n g the T M P. <br />Common Vision is an organization that improves community health and food security t h ro ugh o utdoor <br />classrooms and school gardens th roughout Cal ifornia. Executive Director Wanda Stewa rt's vision aligns w ith <br />t he City of San Leandra's t ree planting efforts to reach underrepresented communi t ies, max i m ize public <br />education, and empower youth . <br />Community partners were essential to the T rees Master Plan's success. Specia l attention was given t o targ et i n g <br />f rontline communities where tree canopy is low, urban h eat island i mpacts a re high, and a l locatio n of r esources <br />has historica l ly been lacking To achieve the T MP priorities o f enviro n me n tal justice and resi lience, a stro n g <br />network of sta keholders was form e d to share information and news about th e T MP, recruit vo lu ntee rs a n d <br />attendees for community events, advise the C ity and consu ltants of iss ues and def ic iencies in the outreach <br />process, and provide input. Several of these organ i zations part ner with the City of San Lean d ro on ex isti n g <br />and/or recent efforts such as the General P lan Update, Climate Action Plan, Res i li ence Hubs, a nd the Cal Fire <br />Tree Planting Grant. <br />37 <br />1 <br />CoN.N.on <br />· Vision <br />The T re es Master P lan's outreach a n d e n gage m ent <br />included a series of focus grou p sess ions.
