<br />MINUTES <br /> <br />CITY OF SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL AND <br />SAN LEANDRO REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />JOINT MEETING <br /> <br />AUGUST 1, 2005 <br /> <br />Civic Center <br />835 East 14th Street <br />San Leandro, California <br /> <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m. <br /> <br />A. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag <br /> <br />Dan Walters led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />B. Roll Call <br /> <br />PRESENT: Members Badger, Grant, Nardine, Santos, Starosciak, Stephens; <br />Mayor Young <br /> <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />2. PRESENTATIONS/RECOGNITIONS <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced that San Leandro Police Officer Nels "Dan" Niemi was laid to <br />rest earlier today. Members of the City Council, Police Department staff and City staff <br />attended the service. Mayor Young expressed gratitude to the Cities of Alameda and <br />Oakland and the Alameda County Sheriffs Office for covering the City's patrol needs to <br />allow Officer Niemi's fellow San Leandro officers to attend the service. Mayor Young <br />announced that tonight's meeting would be adj ourned in memory of Officer Niemi. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger thanked Police Chief Joe Kitchen and Mayor Young for their <br />graciousness and strength through this difficult time of loss for the City. He gave a special <br />thanks to the Sheriffs Department and Oakland PD, as well as to all the other agencies that <br />participated in Officer Niemi's services and provided assistance to San Leandro PD. <br /> <br />Councilmember Grant commended the members of the San Leandro Police Department, <br />Police Chief Kitchen, City Manager Jermanis and City staff for carrying on their duties <br />during an extremely difficult time. <br />
