Discussion Regarding Proposed Affordable Senior Housing Development (2121 East <br />14th Street) <br /> <br />City Manager Jemlanis introduced a proposal from Eden Housing regarding a property for <br />developmcnt for low-income senior housing. Housing Manager Liao explained that Eden <br />Housing has entered into a purchase agreement with the owner oftlle fonner Sir Richards car <br />lot on the comer of East 14th Street and Estabrook Street. Eden is proposing to build <br />alTordable rental housing for seniors and exploring two options: a 3-story, 53-unit complex <br />with surface lot parking; and a 3-story, 84-unit complex ahove garage parking. Eden is <br />cun"ently looking for other funding sources such as tax credits, HUD section 202 Itlllds and <br />preliminarily expects to request approximately $4 million in subsidy for the 53-unit complex, <br />or $6 million in suhsidy for the 84-unit complex. Meetings with the community are <br />scheduled to occur in January 2007 and based on the resulting input, Eden may request <br />predevelopment funding (approximately $30,000) from the City to move the project <br />fOlward. <br /> <br />Manager Liao then introduced Andrea Cohen, Henry Deadrich, and Linda Mandolini from <br />Eden Housing. Henry Deadrich, Eden Board member, shared that Eden manages over 1,000 <br />affordable housing units in the Bay Area, including Fuller Lodge, Fuller Gardens and Eden <br />Lodge in San Leandro. Linda Mandolini shared that the location lends itself nicely to senior <br />housing and that Eden was sensitive to neighborhood concerns. Additionally, she thanked <br />Mayor Young for all her work in support of affordable housing projects. <br />
