A summary of the <br />recommendations and proposed programs is attached. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Analvsis <br />The Recreation and Parks Commission (RAPC) reviewed eleven proposals using guidelines to <br />assess the program's outreach and whether the activity will broaden the scope of cultural and <br />enrichment opportunities for San Leandro residents. The Commission also focused on <br />providing support to proposals that impact more than one group and has broad community <br />benefit. Attached is a summary of the Recreation and Parks Commission's recommendations. <br /> <br />Of the eleven applicants, eight agencies were previously funded and there were three new <br />applicants. Currently supported agencies were funded at prior year levels. One ofthe three new <br />proposals was recommended for funding. Following is a summary of significant funding <br />highlights: <br /> <br />· The following applicants are recommended for funding: Arts Council, California <br />Conservatory Theater, James Madison Abilities Awareness Faire, San Leandro Art <br />Association, San Leandro CollegeBound, San Leandro High School Musical Theater, San <br />Leandro Players and Washington Manor Middle School W orldancers. <br />· The RAPC recommends funding for a new applicant, the James Madison Elementary <br />School Abilities Awareness Faire. The Abilities Awareness Faire was designed by the <br />special education staff to help students develop understanding, empathy and acceptance <br />of people with disabilities. The Faire consists of interactive stations that allow <br />
