Discussion Regarding Implementation of Truancy Ordinance

City Manager Jermanis reported that, following the last City Council and School
Board joint work session, the Council passed the Truancy Ordinance. Police
Chief Attarian reported on the plan for implementing the ordinance, in which the
City and School District would work with the School Resource Officers. It would
be a simple citation-and-release process, and officers would use their discretion to
determine whether a student is en route somewhere or loitering.

Trustee Davis asked if the information would be going out to all parents.
Superintendent Lim indicated that the information would be included in the
handbook that is provided to parents. City staff will provide the electronic
version of the ordinance to the District.
