MINUTES <br />CITY OF SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL AND <br />SAN LEANDRO REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />JOINT MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 17, 2007 <br />Civic Center <br />835 East 14th Street <br />San Leandro, California <br />REGULAR MEETING 7:00 PM--City Council Chambers <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. <br />A. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag <br />Mayor Santos led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />B. Roll Call <br />PRESENT: Members Grant, Gregory, Prola, Souza, Starosciak, Stephens; <br />Mayor Santos <br />ABSENT: None <br />2. PRESENTATIONS/RECOGNITIONS <br />State Assembly Member Mary Hayashi and San Leandro resident Jacqueline Coats addressed <br />the City Council regarding Item 8.F. on the agenda. <br />Assembly Member Hayashi described the plight of Jacqueline Coats, whose husband, Marlin, <br />was posthumously granted the Carnegie Medal by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission for <br />attempting to rescue two children from drowning at Ocean Beach. Mrs. Coats' immigration <br />paperwork was not completed due to her husband's untimely death, and she now faces <br />deportation. Assembly Member Hayashi described the efforts she has undertaken to secure <br />permanent resident status for Mrs. Coats, including the development of a website, <br />www.helpjackie.info. <br />Assembly Member Hayashi urged the Council to adopt the resolution supporting her effort <br />along with U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein to obtain permanent resident status for Mrs. Coats. <br />
