Discussion Regarding Proposed Green Building Policy for Municipal Facilities <br />John Jermanis introduced Sally Barros from the City Planning Department, who briefly <br />spoke about the development of a municipal code for "building green" in the City of San <br />Leandro. She introduced Karen Kho from StopWaste.org and Andrea Traber from <br />KEMA and they gave PowerPoint presentations of their respective organizations <br />regarding "building green" and LEED certification for public/commercial construction <br />and GreenPoint for residential work. Sally added that StopWaste.org has helped her <br />become accredited as well as assisting other city staff with technical support and training. <br />They have provided brochures and materials that are available for the public in the <br />Community Development Department. Their presence is already being felt in the <br />community. <br />Discussion ensued. Councilmember Souza inquired if any of our landscape projects are <br />Bay-Friendly. Sally explained that we are moving towards that. Uche further explained <br />"building green" needs to be planned in the C.LP budget process and Sally is actively <br />working with his department to "build green" with future projects. John asked Karen and <br />Andrea about possible grant funding. Andrea answered that there are possibilities for <br />this. Sally advised that there is a deadline of July 1, 2008 to adopt Green Building and/or <br />Bay-Friendly Landscaping from StopWaste.org. We are definitely leaning towards <br />definitely doing one first than the other. Councilmember Souza inquired if they were <br />
