CITY AND SAN LORENZO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT <br />LIAISON COMMITTEE <br />October 18, 2007 <br />4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. <br />San Leandro City Hall <br />835 East 14th Street <br />San Leandro, California <br />(Sister Cities Gallery Room) <br />HIGHLIGHTS <br />Committee Members: Councilmember Jim Prola, Councilmember Diana Souza, <br />Councilmember Joyce Starosciak (left at 4:40 p.m.), Board <br />Member Gene Judson, Board Member Isabel Polvorosa <br />City Staff: City Manager John Jermanis, City Clerk Marian Handa, Recreation <br />and Human Services Director Carolyn Knudtson <br />SLzUSD Staff: Superintendent Dr. Dennis Byas, Co-Director Special Services Ed <br />Diolazo, Director of Facilities and Operations Jim Ferraro <br />Public Present: None <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by Councilmember Diana Souza. <br />Update on Washington Manor Middle School Gymnasium Joint-Use Project <br />Mr. Ferraro reported that the gymnasium project will go out for bid in early January <br />2008. It is hoped that construction will begin by next summer and be completed by <br />summer 2009. <br />Mr. Jermanis asked what impact the gym footprint would have on the playfield. Mr <br />Ferraro indicated that the gym would encroach approximately 10 feet on the City <br />field, so there would be minimal impact. He suggested that the Committee have an <br />opportunity to review the design drawings at the next Committee meeting. <br />Councilmember Starosciak expressed interest in having digital files of the images to <br />display on her website. <br />Mr. Ferraro responded to Committee members' questions about the proposed design. <br />He noted that the designs of the gymnasiums for all three middle schools are <br />essentially the same. The Committee discussed whether there would be lockers in <br />the new gym and how they would be used. Mr. Jermanis indicated that at the next <br />
