CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />STAFF REPORT <br />DATE: May 1, 2008 <br />APPROVED AND <br />FORWARDED <br />TO CITY COUNCIL <br />Jo ~ : ~~7ermanis <br />Ci anager <br />TO: John Jermanis, City Manager <br />I <br />FROM: Carolyn Knudtson, ecreation and Human Services Director <br />Recreation and Human Services Department <br />BY: Joann Oliver, Recreation and Human Services Manager <br />Recreation and Human Services Department <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br />MATTER OF APPROVAL OF FY 2008-2010 COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE GRANTS. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends City Council approval of the attached recommendations from the Human <br />Services Commission for FY 2008-2010 Community Assistance Grant funding. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Analysis <br />Through the Community Assistance Grant Program, the City of San Leandro supports non-profit <br />organizations that provide social services to San Leandro residents. The program focuses on <br />prevention services, basic needs and crisis intervention. The Human Services Commission <br />reviews the grant proposals, assesses the city's need for the program and makes funding <br />recommendations to the City Council. The program is funded with City General Fund and <br />Community Development Block Grant. <br />The Commission received twenty-eight grant applications, including seven new applicants. The <br />funding recommendations are listed on the attached spreadsheet. The following criteria were <br />used to develop the funding recommendations: <br />• Community Need <br />• Number of San Leandro Residents Served <br />• San Leandro Based Organization <br />• Duplication of Service <br />• Coordination with CDBG Action Plan Priorities & Everyone Home Plan <br />• Track Record of Providing Quality Public Service <br />• Staff and Fiscal Capacity <br />• Grant Helps to Leverage Other Funds <br />
