The project also installs twenty-six (26) Speed Feedback signs at thirteen (13)
locations citywide.
Staff recommends approval of plans and specifications and calling for bids for the subject
project.
BACKGROUND
In 2007, the City received a grant through the Safe Routes to School Program to install
in-pavement flashing crosswalk lights at four (4) school crosswalks in the city. This
program is intended to provide funding to local agencies for safety-related improvements
to facilities along designated Routes to School. In addition, the City received a separate
grant to purchase twenty-six (26) Speed Feedback signs that will be installed at thirteen
(li) other locations (see attached list).
Analysis
The locations selected for in-pavement lighted crosswalk installation are located along
the frontages of Roosevelt, Corvallis, McKinley and Jefferson elementary schools. Due to
high pedestrian volume and speed of traffic, the City is installing two (2) additional in-
pavement lighted crosswalks at the Manor Branch and Main libraries. This safety device
is similar to those already in place at many schools citywide, such as on Dutton in front
